TRAILED BY WOLVES,
FOUND BY SEARCHERS
FAIRBANKS, (AP)—Ruben Parham of Eielson Air Force Base returned to safety Monday after becoming lost while hunting and being trailed by wolves in the Ester region 30 miles west of here.
Parham was rabbit hunting when he became separated from other members of his party. Others in the party reported he was missing and search was started by territorial police officers and volunteers from the city fire department Sunday.
The searchers found his trail and followed his footprints in the snow. Along with Parham's prints were the footprints of three wolves which had been following him.
Searchers finally found Parham, who had sprained a leg and was lying helpless on the ground.
Parham had started a small fire with papers from his pocket and was holding his hands close to the tiny blaze when the searchers came upon him.
Parham told the searchers he hadn't seen the wolves, which apparently were frightened away when the search party drew near.
