Dr. A. L. Lott Makes Award Night Address

Dr. A. L. Lott, Brookhaven physician and an honor graduate of Alcorn College, gave a stirring address to an assembly of students and teachers in Alcorn College's dining room, May 20, 1958. The theme of his address was "The Award I Give To You." During the course of his speech, he gave an award to students for good conduct, to the Dramatic Club for their fine interpretation of "Bad Seed", to the band and choir for their resourcefulness in difficult times, to the team for its ability to carry on the traditions of participation in inter-collegiate contests this year, and to the teachers for their loyalty and devotion to the administration.

Dean H. A. Wilson gave the Who's Who Certificates and Honor Student Medals.

The following students received awards from the Head of their Departments: Jean Dungee, Theresa Davis, Merlene and Nora J. Washington, business; Earnest Cubid, Eunice T. Smith, Gladys and Roger Mays, Billie Dunston, Music; W. B. Jones, Agriculture. Billie Dunston received the $25.00 scholarship award from the Parmi Nous Bridge Club; Paul Rucker received the Science Medal; Clara Coleman, the R. A. Gordon Speech Award; Adrain Marsalis and Cleo McPherson received the Home Economics Awards, and Earnest Cubid received the Annual $25.00 Music Award from the Alumni Association.

The curtain was drawn on Award Night with a fine appraisal made by President J. D. Boyd. The president praised the Dramatics Club for its fine performance in Brookhaven, the students for their good conduct, and the faculty for their support. President Boyd awarded letters for achievement in baseball, tennis, and track, to those boys who have done much to keep the colors waving. He expressed warm appreciation for the splendid address given by Dr. Lott.

The award night ended with the spirited singing of "Beneath the Shade of Giant Trees."
