Hope Held For Pea Crop
The weatherman held chances of revival of a portion of Imperial Valley's pea crop in his uncertain hands today, according to Woodrow C. Jacobs, fruit frost service meteorologist.
Picking will be possible in the north end of the valley if another frost does not strike within the next two weeks, Jacobs said.
The unusually high temperatures, which have prevailed during the past week, have speeded recovery of the peas to such an extent that growers in the northern were optimistic of their chances to gather a few more cars from the fields.
Only 35 cars of peas were shipped from the valley this season as compared to 408 cars last fall.
