Full Text

The board of supervisors of Cochise county are advertising for bids on the proposed paving of the road between Bisbee and Warren, on the Borderland route.

This, when completed, will be the first paved road in the county, and is to be paved in types or classes of concrete known as the bitulithic or of macadam concrete and shall be of uniform width of 15 feet from edge of shoulder to edge of shoulder. It is stipulated in the call for bids from contractors, by the board, that proper drainage and ditching shall be done wherever necessary to carry storm-water and that the successful contractor shall guarantee the road for a period of at least five years from the time of completion.

The length of the road to be paved is to be about two miles, extending from the easterly city line of Bisbee to a point near the C & A offices at Warren.

This section of the county road is a much traveled section of the county highway and at the last meeting of the board a delegation of the road boosters of the county appeared before the supervisors and petitioned the board for the improvements, with the result that the bids have been called for the paving, which, it is expected, when completed, will necessitate practically no subsequent expense, and will prove of great benefit to the travelling public on the Borderland route.

It is estimated by those who are in a position to know that the work will cost in the neighborhood of about $40,000.

Work on the Forrest-Gleeson road is now in actual progress, since the suspension about two months ago, and together with the section to be paved out of Bisbee, and the work being carried on at the Tombstone-Bisbee and the Bisbee-Douglas links of the state highway, will give Cochise county the best roads in the state without a doubt, and the best on the entire Borderland route.
