NEWARK, November 6.

We are informed by a gentleman from Vermont, that Gen. Fletcher,
(Sheriff of Windham county) on his way to Vergennes, the seat of government, was attacked, on the west side of the mountain, by a party of Lyon's deluded wretches, who attempted to dismount his federal Badge; but being armed with a well loaded hunting whip, he resolved to defend himself, for which purpose he aimed a stroke at one of them, which killed him on the spot. The general we are told, has surrendered himself for trial.
