LONDON. January 2.

The King of Spain threatened to invade Portugal with 30 or 40,000 men; " His Catholic Majesty had ordered his ambassador at Lisbon, to demand a categorical answer from his most faithful Majesty. in what part he would take in case of a rupture between Britain and Spain : His Portuguese Majesty had answered; it was a question of so much importance, that he could not well determine in less than seven months ; whereupon The Spanish minister told the king, that his master had ordered him to signify to his Majesty. that if he did not give an explicit answer to his demands in four hours, he had 40,000 men on the frontiers ready to enter the kingdom of Portugal ; but that in case he should take part with Spain. then he and his subjects should meet with every kind of indulgence and assistance that a good friend and ally could give."
