BELL ELECTED TIDE WATER PRESIDENT

Warren W. Bell was re-elected president of the Tide Water Power Company by the Board of Directors last week following the first annual meeting of stockholders to be held in the new Tide Water Power Building. This is the eighth consecutive year for Bell as prexy of the power company.

A. E. Jones was elected Executive Vice-President and H. T. Buchanan Vice-President and Treasurer. Other officers elected were R. P. Andrews and J. Holmes Davis, Vice Presidents; and C. A. Brockwell, Jr., Secretary-Controller. M. W. Fogleman was appointed Asst. Treasurer and Asst. Secretary.

In reviewing Tide Water's program for the past year, Bell reported a total of $1,223,391 spent for construction. This consisted of additions to transmission and distribution lines including 117 miles of new rural lines. Other major projects were the beginning of the conversion to propane-air gas of the gas plant in Wilmington and additional mains built in Fayetteville.

"The Company's proposed construction program for 1951 calls for the expenditure of approximately $3,000,000," Bell said.

"Many major items have been planned to extend our backbone strength, including a new 110,000 volt transmission line from Wilmington through Wallace."

"Work Orders approved in April provide the expenditure of $443,769 for the extension of the 110,000 volt line in Wilmington from Skippers Corner to the Airport Road. The entire system in Wilmington will be substantially strengthened by the addition of two substations and will add to the capacity already existing on Eagle Island. Work on the project has already been started and will be completed in the near future."

"In planning these major transmission lines in Southeastern North Carolina, we are planning for the future industrial expansion that has had such an auspicious beginning."

Bell went on to say, "The industrial development in our territory during the year 1950 was unprecedented in the history of our company and its territory. In the past year, over 50,000,000 was projected for our new plants and factories and all indications point to a continued era of growth and progress for this entire area."

At the annual meeting immediately preceding the Board of Directors' meeting, two new directors, R. P. Andrews and H. T. Buchanan of Wilmington were elected by a unanimous vote of the stockholders.

Renamed to the board were W. W. Bell, J. Holmes Davis, Thomas W. Davis, A. E. Jones, L. J. Poisson and J. G. Thornton of Wilmington; K. Clyde Council of Wallace and Henry S. Gibbs of Wananish, Leroy D. Carter of Morehead City.
