A FEW WORDS OF ADVICE, FOR REPUBLICANS STATIONED AT THE HEAD-QUARTERS, ON SALT RIVER.

Laings, Ohio, Dec., 4th. I noticed a communication a short time ago in the Post stating that the defeated republicans had arrived safe at the head of Salt River, but that the quarters were badly out of repair. For their benefit in the future I would make the following suggestions:

1st. That I believe that it will be agreeable to the Democratic party if they take as much money out of the River and Harbor appropriations as is necessary to place the quarters in good condition for a permanent resting place for them (republicans).

2nd., That if they only have about three months rations of whiskey that they immediately call on Gov. Foster of Ohio, who, I doubt not, will send them one of his brewers forthwith, when they can erect a distillery and make it ad libitum.

With reference to the place having some resemblance to purgatory, would say that persons generally go to the country most congenial to their habits; and as the very essence of "Bossism" is contained in the word which the new translation translates "Hades" it is to be hoped that they will do as little quarreling as possible among themselves, and live as pleasantly as they can: for the present indications are that it will be a life time abiding place for them in this world, and a foretaste of the one in store for them in the future.

Lastly, that they use their utmost means to repair the damaged quarters, and if the River and Harbor appropriations are insufficient, that they request J. Hubbell to make an assessment to complete them, as it is expected that they will have in two years quite a number of permanent visitors consisting of both Stalwarts and Half Breeds.
