In the Board of Common Council yesterday, Councilman Conners, in speaking of the creation of a new office, that of Assistant Street Overseer, remarked a fact that has long since been in our mind, namely, "There are too many men in the City Council with axes to grind." Councilman Olsen said, in view of the probability of the passage of the same bill, that he hoped that if it became a law, that men who pay attention to their business should be employed, and not those who stand on the streets and spout politics, like John Cackrill, the negro Street Overseer.
