COUNTY CLERK
VISITOR HERE
H. R. Andre
of
Westmorland,
candidate for county clerk at the
August primary, paid a courtesy
call at The Press office this morn-
ing, being in El Centro in the in-
terests of his campaign.
A real pioneer of the valley, An-
dre came to Imperial in 1904, open-
ing a general store there, which
he continued to operate for over a
year, disposing of his stock to
Varney Bros. and company, when
that firm was incorporated and re-
turning to his home in Santa Ana.
In 1915 Andre again came to the
valley, taking up ranching in
Westmorland, where he has since
resided.
"I have been a taxpayer in Im-
perial Valley since I first came
here in 1904," he said today, "and
have been active in local and val-
ley-wide affairs, particularly in the
Associated Chambers of Com-
merce. I have been a trustee of
Brawley high school for 15 years
and of the Westmorland grammar
school for nine years. Aside from
these positions I have not held or
solicited public office.
"It is my intention to make a
vigorous and clean campaign for
the office of county clerk."
