First District.-The majority for Alston (whig) over Sellers (dem.) will not far exceed 250 votes. In 1847 the whig majority was 452; and the majority for General Taylor last year was thirteen hundred votes! We give below the majorities as we have received them:
Alston's majority:
Sellers' majority:

This gives Alston a majority of 250, in eight counties.
Washington county, the only one to be heard from, will probably reduce the majority to 250 votes.
Second District.-The majority for Hilliard (whig) over Pugh (dem.) will be about 835 votes. The majority for Gen. Taylor was three thousand and four votes!

To the Editors of the Union:
The election in this, the 7th congressional district of Alabama, has resulted in the re-election of the Hon. F. W. Bowdon over his Taylor competitor, Gen. J. T. Bradford, by a majority of about 1,150 votes-being an increase for the democracy since the presidential election of more than 600. The legislature will be democratic.
All hail!
The Salem Gazette says:
"The elections, thus far, turn out pretty much as we expected-the whigs losing in the slave States on account of General Taylor's well understood determination to sanction the Wilmot Proviso, if Congress should enact it and gaining in the free States for the same reason.
Gen. Taylor's friends in the slave States supported him on the ground of his well known opposition to the Wilmot Proviso. When they begin to doubt his honesty, they will, of course, abandon him. So far from this being the case at present, we notice that Gen. Taylor's friends still claim the whig party of the North as being the only party opposed to abolitionism.
It would be difficult, we fancy, for the Gazette to point to any free State where the whigs have made any very sensible gain at the recent elections. Lowell Adv.
