Full Text

Extract of a letter from Halifax, November 16.

" The lieutenant governor has received orders by the packet to hold an immediate survey of the fortifications here—also to transmit to England as soon as possible the number of inhabitants in this province capable of bearing arms—these circumstances, together with Prince William Henry mounting his cabin guns, previous to his sailing, which were commonly stowed in the hold of the ship, seem to indicate, that our present tranquility will be shortly at an end.

"Our weather is yet very mild—we are looking forward with the pleasing expectation of enjoying a favorable winter—this day twelvemonth we had a deep snow on the ground which never disappeared 'till the season broke up."
