HEADQUARTERS, Alaska National Guard—Men of Sitka's Company D, 208th Infantry Battalion received high praise last week from the top Army commander in the Territory. In a letter to Col. Larry Johnson, the Adjutant General, A.N.G., the Commanding General of U. S. Army in Alaska, Maj. Gen. W. M. Miley, praised the unit for their "superior" rating on recent inspection.
General Miley said, "The fact that this is the first such rating earned by any unit of the Alaska National Guard indicates the fine progress which the Guard has made in its few years of existence in Alaska."
"The members of Company D can be particularly proud of the fact that in less than two years since they received federal recognition, they have twice won the annual Eisenhower Trophy awarded to the outstanding unit in the territory," General Miley stated.
