SEATTLE, (AP)--The Aluminum Company of America's plan to build an aluminum reduction plant in Alaska has the approval "in general" of the Interior Department. Secretary of the Interior Chapman said Wednesday.
But the department wants time to study the plans to make certain no monopoly will result, he added.
Alco's plans for the project call for legislation which would allow the company to purchase 29,000 acres of land in Taiya Valley, six miles west of Skagway. Present law allows no applicant more than 160 acres.
