Full Text

The Government of Great-Britain, it seems still progresses in the business of doing justice to our citizens who have suffered by illegal depredations on their property from the cruisers of England. In the British House of Commons, June 14, an additional supply of 150,000 dollars was voted for monies awarded under the American treaty.—The 600,000l. some time since paid by England, the Jacobins asserted was not more than sufficient to discharge the interest on the property captured; give the poor devils the indulgence of their whims for a moment—they must now grant that something is advanced towards the principal. Say, ye pitiful contemptible revilers of Mr. Jay, and the Treaty of Amity and Commerce, do you think that any part of the avails of your friend Buonaparte's plundering voyage, should such avails escape falling into the hands of the British, will be applied to the discharge of either principal or interest of the millions upon millions robbed from our citizens by the infamous, piratical French "republicans."

Event Details

The Government of Great-Britain progresses in doing justice to American citizens who suffered by illegal depredations on their property from English cruisers. In the British House of Commons on June 14, an additional supply of 150,000 dollars was voted for monies awarded under the American treaty. The 600,000l. paid earlier by England was asserted by Jacobins to cover only interest on captured property, but now advances toward the principal. Commentary questions if avails from Buonaparte's plundering will discharge principal or interest of millions robbed by French republicans.
