Extract of a letter from Cork, dated November 29, 1778.

"Yesterday eleven sails of victuallers arrived at Cove from New York, which place they parted the 26th ult. and left the Hook the 3d instant. They bring advice of four 50 guns ships, with one ship of the line, and 80 sail of transports, being sailed thence, having on board the 4th, 5th, 23d, 27th, 28th, 33th, 40th, 46th, 49th, and 55th regiments, besides a large body of Hessians, and were supposed to be detached to act in the West Indies. That General Clinton, with 14,000 men had gone on an expedition, supposed by some to co-operate with General Butler, who is said to be advancing through the back settlements with 12,000 Indians in the King's interest; whilst others supposed he may be gone to second Admiral Byron, who, with 14 sail of the line and some frigates, was said to be gone towards Boston. In short, his Majesty's friends were in great spirits, and had great expectations from General Clinton's active spirit, who is determined to push our enemies by fire and bayonet, wherever he can meet them."
