After All-Night Search Parents Find Children With Woman Who Picked Them Up On Island Bridge.
Following a frantic search by her mother and by police officers, Ruth and Nona Fager, seven and five years old, respectively, who live at No. 25 Piquette-ave., were found Friday morning at No. 1882 Jefferson-ave.
The children were lured away from their home, Thursday afternoon, by a strange man, who promised them money and candy if they would come with him.
The people who live at the address on Jefferson-ave. say they found the little ones on Belle Isle bridge at 11 o'clock Friday night. Their strange companion was not with them at that time, and they told the woman who found them that he had left them on the island.
It was about 5:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon that Mrs. Fager missed her children. She immediately notified police headquarters and detectives started a hunt for the children. The mother found her husband and the two searched all night for their children without result.
Friday morning the woman who lives at No. 1882 Jefferson-ave. notified the police that she had found two little children on the Belle Isle bridge about 11 o'clock Friday night. Mrs. Fager hurried out there and found that the children were her own. To her they told the story of how they had been lured away by a strange man, who promised them a picnic on the island and told them he would bring them back home in safety.
The little ones say he left them in a dark part of the island when it got late, and they were left to find their own way home. They managed to find their way to the bridge and started to walk across to the city. They had no idea of how to get home after they got on the city side of the bridge.
They were crying bitterly when the woman came across them. They couldn't tell her where they lived and so she took them home to shelter them for the night, with the hope of finding their parents in the morning.
Early Friday morning she notified the police. Detectives from the central station have been assigned to the case. The mother says that her children were not harmed.
