Postmaster General Slashes Deficit

SPEAKING of economy accomplishments, Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield was able to report a very striking one Tuesday.

His department has cut the estimated postal deficit by about one million dollars every working day of the year.

AS ESTIMATED by the old Truman Administration budget, the postal deficit would have been 746 millions. The Eisenhower Administration has cut this to about 315 millions-of which 152 millions represent "pure savings" as against increased charges & revenues.

Maybe the Eisenhower Administration grinds slowly, as its enemies charge, but it certainly is grinding in the right direction!
