Uncle Sam's postal service will be turned into a nation-wide bowling alley next month as Cross of Malta keglers across the country open competition in the first National Postal Bowling Tournament sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Unique feature of the tournament is that every member of the V.F.W. may enter the program through his own Post in his own home town on the alleys that he is familiar with, and win the crown.
The participation in this program will be nation-wide with every Post taking part to help build the Athletic and Youth Fund in their department.
Awards will be given for the first, second and third highest scores turned in for the singles, doubles and five-man-team events. In addition to the awards given to the first three places of the singles, doubles and five-man-team, special awards will be given for the highest score turned in among the National Elective, Department. District, County Council and Post Officers.
Every post member in good standing is eligible to enter the tourney. All members of any team, either doubles or five-man, must be made up of Comrades from the same Post.
The rules are as simple as A-B-C. The entry fee will be $1.00 per man per event. In other words, if a member is entered in the singles, doubles and five-man-team events, his entry fee will be three dollars ($3.00).
The entry blanks for all events are in the hands of the Post Commander now, and it is urged that all entries be sent in as soon as possible. No entries will be accepted without the entry fees accompanying the entry blanks. All checks or money-orders should be made out to: Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Headquarters. The deadline on entries is midnight, December 12, 1947. No entries will be considered that are post-marked at a date later than December 12, 1947.
Entry blanks should be sent with attached check or money-order to: National Director, Athletics and Recreation,

All Post Commanders have received the entry blanks and complete information regarding the tournament.
Refund Possible
All entries in excess to that money which is needed to purchase the trophies will be refunded to the Department from which it came. The money so refunded will be sent to the Department Athletic Director of the Department concerned, to be turned over to the Department Quartermaster, and earmarked exclusively for the Athletic and Youth work within that particular Department. If for example, a participant enters the singles event and sends in $1.00 and upon proper investigation it is found that only ten per cent (10%) of the fees is needed to pay for the trophies, ninety (90¢) would then be returned to the Department Athletic Director for the Department Athletic and Youth Fund. Hence contestants are bowling for a National Title and at the same time strengthening their own Department Athletic and Youth Fund.
Post Athletic Directors or Post Commanders will designate the alleys that will be used in competing home towns. The bowling will be done anytime during the week of December 14, 1947. Bowling will be official in the National Postal Bowling Tournament only on the night designated by the Post Commander or any of his designated representatives.
The total score will be decided by the total on three consecutive lines of bowling. Once an entry is made in the doubles or five-man team events no substitution will be allowed.
The program, designed to bring all the members of the Post into a National Tournament, will provide wholesome recreation for the V. F. W. members all over the country.
Posts are urged to take part in the National Postal Bowling Tournament.
