Won't Pay Ferryman?

The following is taken from the Rock Hill Record:

In the last issue of The Record we made note in regard to the flat at Cureton's ferry having been under water for some time and that it was reported that the supervisor would not have it raised. Thos. W. Boyd, supervisor for York county, called at The Record office and states that he cannot get the Lancaster county folks, who have such matters in charge, to agree to pay a ferryman enough to keep a reliable one there, and that until such a man could be had there was no use raising the flat.

He showed a letter from the Lancaster county engineer in which the latter stated they would not be willing to pay a ferryman more than $45 per month, and Mr. Boyd says that one cannot be had for less than $50, if that, and that York is willing to pay their part to get a competent man if Lancaster will come up.
