"We are sorry to be under the necessity of stating, that, just before the rise of the Legislature, some of the members became very pugnacious. The "d—d lie" passed current; spitting in faces became fashionable; & two pitched battles were fought. We suppose their members, after passing laws to regulate the peace and harmony of society, were desirous to enforce them as soon as possible:
"For broken laws are ne'er the worse:
"Nay, till they are broken, have no force."
