It is said to be a fact that Commodore Preble, who declines an appointment to the secretaryship of the Navy, is soon to be commissioned by administration to make a tour of Great Britain, and visit the several navy-yards, for the purpose of collecting accurate and useful information on all subjects connected with the art of naval architecture, or that of maritime warfare. The character of Commodore Preble gives us assurance, that he will execute the trust with ability and fidelity. and that whether in the dock-yards of Europe, or fighting the foes of his country, his whole efforts will tend to its welfare and aggrandizement.
