Bigots Attack Judge In South

CHARLESTON, S. C.--(Special) -A Southern judge took a bold stand against "the pro-slavery or white supremacy group" in South Carolina this week.

U. S. District Judge J. Waites Waring told newsmen Tuesday that a smear campaign is being waged against him---in an attempt to have the judge impeached.

Reports have it that impeachment petitions are now in circulation in his Eastern South Carolina district. They charge the judge "has openly . . . advocated dissension . . . on the part of Negro citizens against the white citizens of South Carolina."

Judge Waites is the same judge who opened South Carolina Democratic primaries to Negroes. He and his wife, a Northerner, have been militant fighters against white supremacy.
