CHAMBER TAKES UP IMPORTANT MATTERS
An unusually enthusiastic meeting was held by the local chamber today, some twenty members being present.
The meeting was called to order by President Whittlesey, and the following communications were read by J. P. Hannon, secretary.
A communication to the New England Fish Company, stating that the citizens of Seward and chamber of commerce desired to co-operate with the company in any manner, in case they could be induced to erect a cold storage plant here.
A communication from Prof. F. G. Davis, formerly principal of the Valdez schools, stating that he planned to conduct an excursion party to the Territory and needed some good views, and asking for the address of a photographer or dealer who could furnish pictures of this vicinity.
Prof. Davis is now principal of the Detroit Junior High School.
A communication was read from the Anchorage chamber of commerce stating that as a result of a recent campaign the amount of $2500 had been raised, suggesting that a committee be appointed by the Seward Chamber to co-operate with the Anchorage chamber in issuing a combined circular advertising this section of Alaska and its advantages for tourists.
Messrs. Flickinger, Hannon and Horner were appointed as a committee to compile data for the circular.
The secretary reported that letters had been mailed to N. E. Fish & Co., to Harper's Weekly and the Alaska Engineering commission giving data on Seward.
A committee was appointed by the President to issue a circular on Seward as a center of attraction for tourists, in which would be pointed out the nearness to Kenai Lake, Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and other points of interest.
