Communications.

HAMBURG, Aug 27. 1840.

Mr. Editor.—Please publish in your paper the following :

The Edgefield Harrison and Tyler Association convened at the Baptist Church, on Saturday evening last, to receive the report of the nominating committee,

The President in the Chair, the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

The Chairman of the Committee being absent, Mr. J. L. Jeffers one of the committee, reported "viva voce,' that they had conferred with Several gentlemen, upon the subject of suffering their names to appear as candidates on the Whig ticket for the Legislature. and that Capt. Wm. Garrett and Mr. Andrew J. Hammond have consented to run upon that ticket and that the committee recommend the nomination of those gentlemen.

Whereupon Mr. David L. Adams offered the following Resolution which was unanimously carried.

Resolved, That this Association concur with the citizens of Abbeville, in the nomination of Maj. W. W Starke for Congress, and that this association do further concur in the report of the nominating committee. and in so doing, we pledge our undivided suffrages to the support of those candidates.

The Committee of Vigilance reported progress. Mr. Kennaghan moved, seconded by Mr. James H. Anderson, that the Hamburg Journal and Edgefield Advertiser be requested to publish these proceedings.

The meeting then adjourned.
