HOUSE.—Mr. Stevens, of Pennsylvania reported from committee on ways and means the Senate bill saying in explanation that in February last Congress passed an act giving until May 1st, for the withdrawal of goods from bonded warehouses and public stores, for home consumption, and that this bill merely proposed to extend the time until September, for the same purpose.
In reply to a question asked by Mr. Stevens, Mr. Holman said that whenever goods have been in bonded warehouses more than one year, for exportation, no duty is paid; but if withdrawn for home consumption the Government secures the duty. The bill was passed.
Mr. Cox introduced a resolution which was passed, that the House, the Senate concurring, will adjourn the present session of Congress on the 23d inst.
SENATE.—Mr. Foster, from the Committee on Claims, reported a bill to amend the act granting pensions, with amendments. He stated that, among other things, it would cover the case of the disabled soldiers massacred at Fort Pillow.
Mr. Trumbull introduced a bill in relation to the Circuit Court of the United States which was referred to the Judiciary Committee.
Mr. Lane, of Kansas, submitted an additional section to the joint resolution referred to by him yesterday relative to recognizing the new State government of Arkansas.
The bill to ascertain and settle land claims in California came up as unfinished business which was discussed during the morning hour.
On motion of Mr. Lane it was Resolved That the President be requested to furnish the Senate with copies of all correspondence, orders and documents on file in the department in relation to the organization by the late rebel party of Arkansas of a State government.
The Indian appropriation bill, as amended in the Finance Committee and Committee on Indian Affairs was considered, and various amendments offered by Mr. Doolittle, as chairman of the Committee on Indian Affairs. Adopted.
The Senate at 4:30 adjourned.
