Taxpayers who voted at the April election or who registered last week, go to the polls tomorrow and will vote on the $260,000 bond issue for street improvements.
The $260,000 is to be used for additional paving and street improvements and will permit of completion of all paving between Main and East, up to and including Seventh Street. Parts of Star Hill district and Gold Belt Avenue will also be included.
All of Casey-Shattuck, east of E Street and those streets west of E will be considered for paving as rapidly as underground water lines and sewer improvements are completed. Paving of Scatter Tract to Evergreen Avenue will be undertaken as soon as the water supply system is clarified and street widening improvements are completed.
Ninety per cent of the streets will be paved or improved under this program.
Improvements will increase all property values, do away with dusty roads during dry weather and muddy conditions during the rainy weather.
The improvements will also cut down maintenance costs for the Street Department as gravel streets will no longer be a problem.
A conservative indebtedness as to our bonded indebtedness ceiling, as set by the Organic Act, is approximately $1,400,000. The present indebtedness, including last year's $150,000 bond issue for street improvements, is $340,000.
Juneau taxpayers must prepare for future growth of the city now and make Juneau a city for which to be proud.
Street improvements will cost less now than in the future because equipment for previously voted street improvements, will be here and ready for use.
It is quite apparent now to those who think in municipal improvements and for betterment of the city, the bond issue should be voted so go to the polls tomorrow and vote "yes" for the bond issue.
The polls will be open in the City Hall from 8 tomorrow morning until 7 tomorrow evening.
