A letter from Liverpool has the following article:

"The success the privateers of this town have met with, has induced some private Gentlemen to subscribe for fitting out three more, which will be ready to put to sea by next Christmas. It is computed, that the armed vessels that have sailed out of our port, have already brought in a clear profit to the owners of upwards of 30,000 l. No trading town in Europe ever sent out half the number of privateers we have done; 47 in the whole, 40 of which are now at sea on a cruise. The privateering trade is the best trade going on at this time, for we have but little other. Half the people must have been bankrupts, had it not been for the great success our armed ships have met with."

Event Details

The success of privateers from Liverpool has induced private gentlemen to subscribe for fitting out three more, ready to put to sea by next Christmas. Armed vessels from the port have brought in a clear profit of upwards of 30,000 l. to owners. No trading town in Europe has sent out half the number of privateers as Liverpool's 47 total. The privateering trade is the best current trade due to little other commerce, preventing bankruptcy for half the people through the success of armed ships.
