AN OLD STATESMAN SHOWS UP

It is encouraging to find that grand old statesman Bernard M. Baruch insisting that there is an urgent need for "peace with self respect," and adding that "nothing can have meaning except as it is related to our peace strategy--a strategy we still lack." He went on to state that in his opinion "the overhanging threat of another war penetrates everywhere." He added another warning concerning the problems of wages and high prices. He said he believed they cannot be solved until there is some settlement of the cold war. He added:

"Today the crux of our problem is that there is no peace ... We must deal with this first ... It is futile to talk of free enterprise with the threat of war overhanging, for free enterprise needs peace to function."

Principles are splendid to live by but they are not much for profit-making.
