Full Text

The District Attorneyship. -The President of the United States having appointed a new City Postmaster, Marshal, Navy Agent, Warden of the Penitentiary, and Commissioner of Public Buildings, some anxiety is now manifested to learn the name of the individual upon whom the office of District Attorney is likely to be bestowed. The prominent candidates for this post are P. B. Key, who formerly discharged its duties, and Daniel Ratcliffe. It is said that a delegation of friends of the former, from Baltimore, last week, visited the President, to speak a word in his behalf, and that this movement has stimulated the advocates of the latter, in Alexandria, to come hither on a similar errand for him. Besides, efforts for each have not been wanting on the part of some of our own citizens. We do not concern ourselves about the peculiar claims or merits of either of these gentlemen, but there seems to be no doubt that both of them have, for several months past, been actively engaged in a spirited contest for the high, honorable, and lucrative office now so courteously and ably filled by a gentleman of a different class of politics.
