Constable Pfell's Escape.
A mulatto woman, named Mary Rhodes of 1035 Tenth street, was charged before Judge Mills to-day with assaulting Constable H. D. Pfeil with an ax. He stated that he went to the house of the accused yesterday with an execution for debt. He got into the house and she refused to open a chamber door and he kicked it open, when she attempted to strike him in the breast with an ax, but he caught the blow on his wrist. He finally levied on a sewing machine. A fine of $1 was imposed.
