Full Text
James Quigley had a runaway yesterday that proved disastrous to his buggy. His horse was hitched to a carriage and Mr. Quigley started to give the animal a drink and removed the bridle for the purpose. As soon as the bit was out of the horse's mouth and it caught sight of the buggy behind, the animal got scared and rushed round the yard finally going through the gateway into the street. The carriage caught against the gate post and was torn all to pieces. The horse, however, ran off into the hills, where it was caught apparently unhurt about two hours afterward.
Mr. Quigley says he is willing to pay for his experience as it was the first time in a long experience of handling horses that anything of the kind ever happened to him. He says he has since learned that it is not an uncommon thing for a horse driven with a blind bridle to become frightened at the vehicle it is hitched to when the blinds are removed.
