Board Told of C. D. V. O. Accomplishments
Accomplishments of the Civilian Defense Volunteer Office were reported at a meeting of the board in city hall Monday at which B. H. VandenBelt, chairman, presided.
Mrs. Ross Bower reported on the work of the War Neighborhood Clubs stating how they had assisted in the Red Cross campaign, in recruiting for C. D. V. O., and in giving out information for WACS, SPARS, WAVES, for salvaging, and for care of children of working mothers. She announced the appointment of Mrs. Harry Faulkner as chairman of W. N. C.
Mrs. H. deB. Barss reported on training classes, some of which had been conducted through Adult Education program, and others being conducted by the Red Cross. The early training classes in Civilian Defense are completed.
The Board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Fred Battelle with regrets. Mrs. Battelle has been a member since the beginning of the Defense Council and her work was very much appreciated.
Mrs. A. McAndrew resigned as chairman of recruiting on account of ill health. The file of volunteers was greatly increased through the efforts of Mrs. McAndrew and her committee, and her resignation was accepted with regrets.
It was voted that Miss Estelle Bauch, chairman of nutrition, and Mrs. Luman Seamans, chairman of consumer committee, be members of the C. D. V. O. Board.
Mrs. A. J. Whitmire, chairman of placement, gave a very interesting report of all the activities in her department.

be relied upon to answer calls for their services.
The report pointed out improvements that could be made showing that only 48 hours of volunteer work had been done in February and that 216 hours had been done by two persons alone in her office at the city hall. There are 560 volunteer cards in the office files with no work credited on them.
Despite the fact that War Neighborhood Clubs did an intensive job of publicizing the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, only one name of an eligible person was turned in as a possible candidate for the WAACS. The Citizens Service Program has ceased to exist since the chairman, Mrs. Russell Cain, moved away from the city.
Progress in WAAC publicity is reported since CDVO County Chairman Mrs. Wells Bennett introduced Lt. Sarah Hudgens to Ypsilanti. Lt. Hudgens has appeared at meetings of the Kiwanis Club, Ladies Literary Club, eleventh and twelfth grades of Ypsilanti High School girls, girls from the seventh grade upward in Roosevelt School, Business and Professional Women, Y.W.C.A. girls and junior hostesses of the American Legion.
The report stated that Award Certificates for those who have given 50 or more hours of war volunteer service will be distributed as soon as the names are inscribed on them. Chairman Whitmire urged credit for those who have served 50 or more hours be turned into her office so that post war records of Ypsilanti volunteer war work would reflect the really large amount of it that has been done here. She said that there were upwards of 75 persons who had done extensive volunteer work for her office but who had filed no registration cards and that such credit would not be listed at Lansing and in Washington. She said the American Red Cross was preparing a list of 50 or more persons who were entitled to such awards and that they could increase credits given to Ypsilanti people.
