DETROIT, Nov. 21, (U.P.)—Nash-Kelvinator Corporation today announced cancellation by the Navy of its huge contract for mass production of giant Vought-Sikorsky flying boats because of strategic development in the Pacific area.
Quick revision of the Navy's aircraft requirements in view of developments in the Pacific was the reason given for cancellation of the contract by Rear Admiral E.M. Pace Jr., director of the materials division of the Navy Department.
Increased production of combat planes and fast patrol bombers is needed immediately, Admiral Pace said. And that means that some of the facilities available through Nash-Kelvinator for flying boats production will have to be turned over to contractors who are already at work on the types of planes we now need in order that they may expand their output.
