One of the finest examples of the true spirit of sportsmanship was exemplified by the two youngsters shown above in the Minneapolis TRIBUNE staff photo. Charles Smith (left) of Phyllis Wheatley House and David Lindgren (right) Fire Station 13 Golden Glovers were both honored at the Phyllis Wheatley Recognition banquet May 10. Lindgren was awarded a close decision over Smith in a recent Junior Golden Gloves tournament. Lindgren, however, thought Smith deserved the nod. David in a letter to Smith mailed him the championship medal, saying he believed the Wheatley lad should have won the trophy. Smith told Wheatley officials he thought Lindgren had won. Thereupon with such evidence of good Americanism the house presented each of the boys a sportsmanship medal. At the time Smith returned Lindgren's medal to him amid the applause of the banqueters.
