NEW-YORK, May 4.

Between 2 and 3 o'clock Yesterday Morning, a terrible Fire broke out in a small Building adjoining Mr. Hildreth's distillery-House, the Flames soon communicated itself to the Distillery, in which there was a large Quantity of Rum, sugar and molasses, which burnt with great Fury; the Wind being at N. W. The Fire soon reached the wooden Buildings adjoining, and carried all before it to the Front of Water-Street; and notwithstanding the great Alertness of the Inhabitants, 9 dwelling-Houses, a Store and Chair-House, were reduced to Ashes, and several others damaged. Mr. Hildreth's Loss is computed at 1500l. The Houses burnt on the North Side of Water-Street, were improved by Mrs. Feeley Mess. John Bennet, Alexander Montgomery, Wm. Irwin, John Freeborn, Pelatia Haws, and Edward Reynolds.
