MYRA McHENRY HERE

Carrie Nation's Old Friend Pays Regular Visit to Legislature.

Myra McHenry is here.

Those words in the old days would have closed up every bar in Topeka. In the later days they would have been a cue to the police to avoid street congestions.

But today she is carrying a big stick with the idea of using it on the city manager law. She represents Wichita, Kan., she says. Wichita has the manager plan in operation and, according to Mrs. McHenry, the town is sick of it.

Incidentally Myra wishes to have a talk with Minnie Grinstead, the famous only woman legislator of Kansas.

"Her anti-smoking bill is all right," Mrs. McHenry admits.

"But Mrs. Grinstead doesn't go far enough. She should submit a bill requiring girls on the streets to wear clothes. I don't care what they wear just so they wear clothes. Perhaps the smoke is so thick Mrs. Grinstead can't see but believe me I can see 'em. It is shameful-awful."

Myra is looking fine. Despite her stormy career in Kansas in which she has been arrested fifty times or more, she looks not a day older than when she was in her fighting trim many, many years ago.

"How old are you, Mrs. McHenry?" a State Journal man dared to ask her today.

Mrs. McHenry walked up close to the questioner, motioned for him to lean down that she might whisper in his ear and in a subdued tone she answered:

"I am just old enough to have sense enough not to tell you."
