New Hampshire Statesman

Mr. Adams in Virginia.—The last Norfolk Beacon furnishes us with the proceedings of a meeting in that borough, at which the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:

Resolved, That the integrity, the distinguished abilities, and the long and faithful services of JOHN QUINCY ADAMS entitle him to the highest confidence of the American People.

Resolved, That in the opinion of this Meeting, the election of JOHN Q. ADAMS, as the next president of the United States, will meet the approbation of a large majority of the people of these States; and that this meeting from a thorough conviction of his exalted worth and talents, will use all honorable and constitutional means to promote his election to that high office.

Resolved, That this meeting highly appreciating the republican principles and the military services of General Andrew Jackson, will in like manner support him for the office of Vice President of the United States.

In a continued residence of nearly nine years, we have never, says the Editors, witnessed so large and respectable a meeting of our inhabitants upon any occasion. The Hall was crowded to overflowing, and we venture to assert that no popular assemblage, in this country, was ever distinguished by more good order or decorum. The general and hearty acclaim with which the resolutions relating to Mr. Adams, were carried, left on our minds the impression that there was a perfect unanimity with all present as respects that gentleman, and although there was some difference of opinions as to Gen. Jackson's claim to the Vice Presidency, a considerable majority was in favor of, and no person was named in opposition to him.

The constant, sure, and effective progress which the cause of Mr. Adams is making, furnishes in our view most strong and honorable testimony to the intelligence and virtue of the people of these United States. It shows beyond all dispute, that the clamour of faction, and the slang of party, cannot divert them from conferring their suffrages upon long services, superior abilities, and unbending integrity.

The triumph of Mr. Adams, which is now no longer matter of doubt, is in truth the triumph of the good, over the bad principles of our nature, and as such, must be interesting to every honest man.
