Full Text

May 3. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars are posted away, to indulge the speechifying Members of a certain august Body in hearing themselves talk! while commerce groans under the burdens imposed to support this farce of declamation!

In a late Philadelphia paper, six columns are crowded in a very small type with one speech—and to be continued. It is surely no great compliment to the understandings of the speakers' colleagues, to suppose so many words necessary to enlighten them.

This passion for spouting, renders it impossible to circumscribe business within any certain bounds, and keeps the end of an already lengthy session at an unexpected distance.
