Full Text

Hamburg is entirely a commercial city, partaking in some measure of the Dutch style of building. There are some canals through the streets, which are very narrow and crooked. All the window sashes open outwards on the street which gives a curious effect to the prospective, as though the houses were flying away with a thousand wings. On one side and within the city, is a basin of fresh water about 50 acres in extent immediately in front of which the best hotels and private dwellings are situated. Sail boats and swans are seen gracefully skimming its placid surface.
