FROM SPAIN
Baltimore, July 23.--The Margaretta, Carter, arrived here yesterday from Smyrna (and Gibraltar,) reports brig Midas of and from this port arrived at Smyrna in the unusually short passage of thirty six days!
Ten or twelve privateers, armed at Scio, were cruising in the Straits, taking property and had made several captures.
On the 29th May they carried two French ships and a brig. Soon a French frigate made her appearance in the bay, which prevented further captures. The French had 13 ships of war off Cadiz and other ports on the coast of Spain.
By the Margaretta, the Editor has received a file of the G. Chronicle to the 1st of June, and a dispatch Gazeta of Cadiz, of 24th which furnish the following information.
The King had deprived Count Abisbal and Montijo of all the honors and distinctions which government give or withdraw at will
Seville, May 31.--Brigadier Mina in Alcoi on the 21st. General Ballasteros in Valencia with 8000 foot and 400 horse and the 2d Division of his army, under Balanzat, in the environs of Teruel or Daroca, consisting of 4000 of the former and 200 of the latter.
In Cazalla there will be another column for similar purposes in that part of the country. In Estremadura, Badajoz fortifying, and the best spirit prevails. This is also the case in the province of Salamanca and Ciudad Rodrigo. Gen. Morillo, commanding the 4th army, has his head quarters at Astorga on the 5th, and the forces under him were daily increasing. Brigadiers Palarea and Jones gai are in Asturias with between 3 and 4000 men. Gen. Alava, as stated before, was at Castelfollit on the 3d, and being in the enemy's presence, had concentrated his forces.
General Lapoisson slept on the 5th in Albacete with 3000 foot, some horse and a piece of ordnance under him.
The Duke of Giglvero gives up substance of a despatch of the 9th from Gen. Pego, stating that the Spanish army had abandoned Zumaya, and had no road but that of France--- that the troop which he had proceeded to join Cneis. ili. that Silveira was advancing and that he was returning to meet him with his force considerably reduced.
A number of the Spectator, quoted the last paragraph of the latest G. Redactor, (the 22d inst.) also says, that the French have evacuated Santander with precipitation, in consequence citizens having risen upon them: and that they were pursued by Palarea, Jauregui and Campillos:
And, further, that Gen. Mina was known to be in sight of the enemy on the 2d inst.; that it is so mentioned in a dispatch of his from Castelfollit of that day; and that he might have obtained, on the 4th, a considerable advantage which, on the 15th, he was reported in Seville to have obtained over a division of 2000 French troops.
An Aid de Camp of that Commander had arrived at Madrid, late in the evening of the 15th, with despatches for Count d'Abisbal, the contents of which had not transpired.
