St. Louis, (L. T.) July 25.

It is a subject of great felicitation to reflect on the manly and patriotic spirit which inspires our citizens. Already we see several companies formed and forming, numbers are arming themselves, and if our militia officers only do their duty, we may count on a force equal to any emergency. We are happy to learn that our sister territory is not behind us in a determination to repel injuries from either civilized or a savage foe. In a comparatively small settlement (Goshen) 101 well equipped mounted riflemen were on the march, 12 hours after the late murder was committed in their neighborhood, by the Indians. We cannot but lament the want of arms on both sides of the river; surely government might loan some rifles, until the people could furnish themselves.
