Full Text

Peter Daniel Peang-The condemned man in Scott county-was refused a new trial by the recent Circuit Court of Scott. Unless the Supreme Court of Appeals should interfere he will be hanged on the 13th of September next

His is a singular case. Only the dim track of circumstances lead and point to him as the murderer of Fugate, his cousin. No man saw him shoot his victim. No human tongue is his positive accuser. If he did it, no eye save his own was witness to it, and he has stoutly denied the awful charge. Yet he will probably hang, and many a man hanged on circumstantial evidence has had the silken-winged, but leaden-footed angel of Truth to come and paint the word "Innocence" at the head of his sunken grave, when his children had been orphaned, his wife widowed and his name polluted with the verdict of murder.
