"Baby-Saving Week" has been set for March 4-11. This is the first attempt to promote on a national scale a campaign, not for more babies, but "to keep the well baby well."
Dr. L. J. Murphy, secretary of the Minnesota Public Health Association, says his association will endeavor to have 'Baby Saving Week' appropriately observed, not only in the large cities, but in each of the 2,700 registration districts, including each of the 8,500 rural schools of the state.
Every school, church, women's club, parent teachers association, and farmers' club throughout the state will be expected to join in this campaign. The state board of health, the state department of education, and the home economics staff of the Agricultural Extension Division of the University of Minnesota will also join in the effort to make the campaign a huge success, and the state will have the cooperation of the Children's Bureau, the United States Public Health service, and numerous national organizations.
Of some 50,000 babies left in Minnesota homes each year, one out of each four dies before it reaches the age of five years, and one out of each five dies before reaching its first birthday. They should be saved!
