Full Text

The Wallapai Indians,—This tribe, which in former years was a bad element in the section which they inhabit, viz. Mohave county, is now very peaceable and contented. A few days since they were ordered by Major Woodruff to keep away from the line of railroad grading, and also by way of a small sandwich by interpreter to also keep away from the several settlements and towns in that county. This caused the citizens to fear an outbreak and they asked General Willcox to have the matter fixed so that the Indians, who get no rations during warm weather, might return to the towns and work for a subsistence. No order of the military caused the Indians to go into the mountains, and they were by Major Arnold so informed. They have returned to the settlements contented, and there no longer exists any fear from them.

General Willcox was at no time responsible for their removal.
