Extract of a letter, dated Annapolis. March 3.

"I cannot forbear the freedom of mentioning to you the favourable disposition of the general assembly of this state towards complying with the requisitions of Congress, in consequence of the report of their committee lately transmitted to the executive of this state. It was referred to a conference of both branches of the legislature, and after a short debate, on their report to the house, leave was given to bring in a bill, investing Congress with power to levy certain duties on all goods imported, for the term of 25 years, together with an annual tax of 1s. on every hundred pounds value of property within the state, for the same period, as a fund to discharge their proportion of 1,500,000 dollars annually, required by the requisition of April 18th, 1783. As the bill is not brought forward yet, possibly my ideas of the event may prove premature; but from the best information I can get from many of the members, and the disposition discovered at the time the report of the conferees was before the house, there is no reason to doubt the passage of the bill, agreeable to the report, by a great majority. In support of this opinion, it may not be improper to add, that 360 copies of the report of 15th February, 1786, were printed by order of the house, for the information of the people in the different counties."
