A Person dress'd in the Habit of a Divine, enquired for the Dissenting Teacher, and told him that he was a Brother in Profession, that he had settled a Congregation in Amsterdam, from which he possess'd a Salary of 200 l. a Year, and having Occasion to pass that Way in the Course of Business, he used the Freedom to wait on him : The Teacher believed his Story, and desired him to stay a few Days with him : On the ensuing Sunday the Imposture preached in a very pathetic Manner, and obtained the Applause of the vulgar Part of the Audience. He was invited to stay another Week, and preached a second Time with equal Success.
On the next Monday Night this Deceiver made an Attack on the Minister's Maid, which she communicating to her Master, alarmed his Suspicion, and he began to form Expedients to get rid of his Guest; the Minister coming to Town desired his Guest to accompany him, and offered to accommodate him with a Horse; with this Proposal he comply'd, but when they were on their Journey, his ungrateful Guest discovered a Pistol, which he held to the Minister's Breast, robb'd him of his Watch and a few Guineas, and then rode off with great Precipitation across the Country.
