Morehouse's Boxing, Wrestling Card Hot

Forgetting the fraternal spirit which so dominates the Morehouse College campus, sixteen students took to the squared circle March 4 to participate in the most colorful amateur boxing and wrestling exhibitions ever to be staged on the "Old Red Hill." Although the affair was one of harmless play, many smashing blows were driven to the head, jaw and body as Clarence Rodgers, Elvin Smith, Sterling Gill, Francis Thompson, Cohen White and Ulysses Amos were pronounced winners in their respective bouts, either by virtue of a direct knockout, technical knockout, or a decision.

In two fast wrestling matches, Marvin Collier was conceded a victory over Walter Echols, and Murray Townsend outclassed Leon Elam. In both the boxing matches and the wrestling exhibition, Coach Vernon Smith served as referee; Bertram Ellison, timer; David Leaver, clerk; Alphonso Lowry, announcer; and Roscoe Johnson and Bryant Bass, judges.
