Full Text

Extract of a letter from Boston, May 9.

"We have at length, in this province acquired the art of making pot-Ash of so strong an Alkali, that it will soon be preferred to the Hungarian ash, by the soap boilers and glass-makers. Besides the profits resulting from its sale, we have two other advantages; for in making it, we clear away our woods and mend our land: The various premiums that have been offered, have so much encouraged this manufacture, that all our farmers are now setting about making pot-Ash. Two ships are at this time actually loading with it, and in six Weeks a third, will be ready. These ashes take up a small compass. All other kind of trade is this year very dull."
