SKATING.

On Saturday last, our southern eyes were gratified with beholding this novel and most graceful exercise. Some young gentlemen of the cold and nimble heel, discovered a pond in town, so completely frozen over as to admit their sports nearly the whole of the day. Old men and boys, young men and maidens turned out to witness this new sort of agility. We are informed that in the year Ninety Seven, such things were, but not since.

The previous night had been severely cold. A gentleman, whose observations of the weather are exceedingly correct, has been kind enough to hand us the following statement.

Friday Night, Jan. 19th, 9 o'clock, 15°: Saturday Morning 4 o'clock, 14; 6:30, 13°; Sunrise, 14. -Georgetown Gaz. Jan. 23.
